However, due to her reputation for excellence in what she does and some small environmental consulting jobs she had previously performed, people were almost instantly knocking on her door for her assistance in their projects. “My business wasn’t something I had planned—it just happened,” she confessed. Her popularity only grew, and thus, M.H. Wolfe & Associates Environmental Consulting, Inc. was born and has been holding strong since 1989.

Bakersfield residents have always needed transportation. As early as 1874, the first public transit was carrying passengers to the train station two miles east of the city on Baker Street. Public transit was initially provided by private companies. However, in the mid-1950s when the popularity of the automobile caused a significant drop in ridership and revenues, the city took over operations of the system and in 1965 created a transit authority. In 1972, voters within the proposed transit district boundaries approved the formation of a transit district by a 2-to-1 margin. A board of directors was appointed in September, 1972. In 1973, the District started operation and was named the Golden Empire Transit District (GET).

Elias “Chuck” Haddad was in the U.S. for school—Los Angeles, to be specific— and a fortuitous trip to a car dealership with a friend wound up changing his life. He was so good at negotiating with the salesman and manager that the owner of the dealership offered him a job, and Haddad accepted.

Don and Beverly Wade made a big decision in 1976. The local couple jumped into business in a big way when they opened a store dedicated to the sale of pianos and organs, as well as a music lesson center.

At the time, the company, known today as California Keyboards Music Center, was small but efficient. The Wades’ store was also the first store to be an official Yamaha dealer in the Kern County area. They were always looking for ways to set the business apart from other stores in town and, to this day, that attitude holds true.
